Is Tenant Responsible for Removing Fixtures?

Q About six years ago, I bought a business whose owner also owned the building and was in the process of selling it to a third party at the time of our transaction. I signed a five-year lease that the third-party purchaser eventually assumed.

I recently reached the end of my lease term and decided not to renew. After I moved out of the space, I received a letter from the owner, informing me that I was responsible for removing the counters, lighting, and several other fixtures from the space.
