Signs of National Turnaround

Data recently released by the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) indicates improvement among some of the larger real estate investment trusts (REITs) since January 2009. REITs allow individuals to invest in commercial real estate, and manage specific types of properties, such as shopping malls, apartments, and storage facilities.

There have been 45 secondary equity offerings raising $12.2 billion in the REIT industry so far this year. In 2008, there were 76 secondary offerings, which raised about the same amount of capital.
