Retail Tenants Unite to Get Concessions

Retail tenants across the United States are forming alliances to increase their chances of getting concessions from their owners. They say that coming to the table with a united front enhances their bargaining power during concession negotiations.

However, real estate experts are warning tenants not to become blinded by their perceived strength in numbers, because owners are not powerless. In fact, some owners have actually planned for the group approach and are taking specific steps to break the alliances.
