Protect Benefits of Retail Location from Owner's Redevelopment Plan

There are several advantages to leasing in a strip mall or shopping center, rather than a stand-alone building. These include good proprietary signage, a desirable mix of tenants, convenient parking, and visibility, which usually are provided for in the lease. And these benefits may be a large part of the reason you chose your particular strip mall or shopping center. Negotiate provisions in your lease that protect them—and possibly your bottom line—from the owner's potential redevelopment plan.
