Florida Tenants Dodge Tax Bullet

After lobbying by commercial real estate groups, Florida's Department of Revenue scrapped a plan that would have imposed more taxes on business leases in the Sunshine State. To draft the plan, Department of Revenue officials studied how sales taxes are levied on improvements that tenants make to the buildings they rent.

But the Florida Gulfcoast Commercial Association of Realtors characterized the potential plan as “double taxation” and feared a new tax would stall business expansion and stymie job growth.
