Determining Obligation to Pay for Capital Improvements
Q: There are several retail tenants in the building where I rent space. The owner plans to convert the building to a condominium building with both commercial and residential units. He sent notices to the tenants announcing the plan and letting us know that we’ll be expected to contribute our pro rata share of the cost of the conversion. But I think it’s unfair for me to have to cover part of the cost of the updates that will be made.
