Worldwide chemical company BASF Corporation will lease the new 325,000 square foot office building that Rockefeller Group Development Corporation plans to develop at The Green at Florham Park. Construction on the New Jersey project will begin in July, and is expected to be completed and occupied by mid-2012. The new building will be home to BASF’s North American headquarters, which has been based in Florham Park since 2004.

A BASF spokesperson said that the company was attracted to The Green at Florham Park because it is a Class A planned sustainable development. The 268-acre development has been designed to accommodate more than 800,000 square feet of office space, a full-service hotel, and a 425-unit active adult residential community. It is also the home of the Atlantic Health New York Jets Training Center. BASF plans to register the new building with the U.S. Green Building Council with the goal of having it LEED Platinum certified--the highest LEED status a building can achieve.

The new office building development marks the continuation of Rockefeller’s recent trend of successful build-to-suit projects across the United States, including a VA Clinic in Oceanside, Calif., and General Mills’ 1.5 million square-foot distribution center near Atlanta--the country’s largest LEED Gold certified building .
